3 Filipino Queer Films to Binge-watch

By Gabriela Baron

If you're looking for queer-themed films to binge-watch this November, worry not, we've got you!

Representation matters now more than ever and thankfully, the local film industry has grown more diverse so we have rounded up some LGBTQIA+-themed movies for you.

This film follows the story of Jennifer Laude, also known as Ganda, a Filipina trans woman who was murdered by a United States Marine in 2014.

"Call Her Ganda" is a recipient of the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Award for "Grand Jury Award" and the Toronto LGBT Film Festival for "Best Documentary Audience Award," both in 2018.

1. Call Her Ganda
2. Rainbow's Sunset

Directed by Joel Lamangan, the film tells the story of Ramon, who came out as gay to his children in his senior year, to take care of Fredo, his ailing lover. "Rainbow's Sunset" stars Eddie Garcia, Tony Mabesa, and Gloria Romero.

3. Rookie

This sapphic love story follows the life of an awkward 6-footer teen, Ace, who is forced to learn and play volleyball half-heartedly as the Catholic school she transferred to doesn't have a basketball team.

Ace's life changes when she meets the school's star volleyball player and falls in love with her.
